What does 2024 have in store?
Statement from our Managing Director.
As the end of year grows nearer and we all approach a well earned break. At NETA we all find ourselves reflecting on 2023 and what it has brought us, and more importantly what does the new year promise.
As the cost of living crisis really bites every home in the UK we have seen a marked increase in people starting engineering qualifications. They are mainly trying to do better for their families by looking to improve their earning potential. The sectors we deal with include rail and transport, automotive, aerospace, food and drink, they all have seen challenges on cost down pressures but above all a severe shortage of qualified engineers.
What are the options for individuals?
The main route for people wishing to advance within the industry is still the NVQ qualification to recognise their developing skills and gain skilled status. This route has seen an increase on the year for people within engineering roles, in particular the rail industry where massive job cuts are looming at places such as Alstom, Derby. This is as a consequence of a reduction in new build projects and the reduction of the HS2 project.
What comes next?
We will see a continuation of what we have seen this year, people with the relevant qualifications are moving freely around the sector.
To all those who have worked with us over there last year, have a very Merry Christmas and hopefully a prosperous New Year.
To anyone looking for advice on their career pathways or developments please do not hesitate to get in touch. We all find ourselves
